THE DIRT
While some of the most popular and well marketed hair products utilise terms such as 'herbal' and 'natural' to imply a safe and healthy alternative, in reality, most are a concoction of cheap and toxic chemicals. Up to 60% of what we put onto our skin can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
Here is just some of the Ingredients in a Leading 'Herbal' Shampoo
Sodium Laureth Sulphate and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate;
These petrochemical derivatives may react with other chemicals and form nitrosamines and dioxane, both carcinogens. SLS can mimic oestrogen and disrupt the reproductive system. It can also lead to hair loss and dandruff due to the corrosive detergent properties.
Parfum
Around 95% of fragrances are synthetically produced. Many are derived from petroleum and thereby have the associated risks of cancer, birth defects and central nervous system disorders. Most will also contain phthalates, which are known to cause endocrine (hormonal) disruption and scarily, have been found in breast milk.
Methyl and Propyl paraben
Petrochemically derived preservatives that mimic oestrogen and interfere with sexual development and reproduction. Some studies have found parabens in breast tumors. While more research is needed in this area, in the case of your health CleanLife has a 'guilty until proven safe' stance.
Cocoamide MEA
Contains Monoethanolamine with reacts with SLS and SLES to produce carcinogenic nitrosamines. The vapour is highly toxic.
I don't want what she's having!
G SPOT
Changing over to a natural shampoo can put some people into a state of 'hair detox'. Signs include dry and knotty hair. It usually only lasts a couple of weeks and is usually the result of your previous hair care products using silicone to coat the hair. If you can perservere, your hair will end up looking and feeling better than ever.
On a personal note, we've found that changing to natural shampoo has banished dandruff for most of our consultancy clients.
