Fluoride ingestion at concentrations of around 1ppm, has been associated with hormone disruption, decreasing bone strength, bone cancers and fluorosis . This is the exact level to which we fluoridate our water in Australia and in the USA.

• 97% of Europe chooses fluoride free water
• Tooth decay rates have declined at similar rates in all western countries in the latter half of the 20th century - irrespective of whether the country fluoridates its water or not. Today, tooth decay rates thoughout continental western Europe are as low as the tooth decay rates in the United States - despite a profound disparity in water fluoridation prevalence in the two regions.
• It is also acknowledged by dental researchers that fluoride has little effect on preventing cavities in the pits and fissures (chewing surfaces) of teeth - where the majority of tooth decay occurs.
• The chemicals - fluorosilicic acid, sodium silicofluoride, and sodium fluoride - used to fluoridate drinking water are industrial waste products from the phosphate fertilizer industry.
• "Virtually all authors have noted that some children could ingest more fluoride from [toothpaste] alone than is recommended as a total daily fluoride ingestion." (Levy & Guha-Chowdhury 1999: Journal of Public Health Dentistry)
• Dental fluorosis rates in children have risen from 10%  in the 1940s, to the current rate of over 30%.  This is thought to be from combined fluoride intake.
• Other sources of fluoride include: fluoride dental products, fluoride pesticides, fluorinated pharmaceuticals, foods processed with fluouridated water.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is found in most conventional toothpastes. In addition having high liver and gastrointestinal toxicity and being toxic to aquatic organisms, SLS is known to cause MOUTH ULCERS!

Alcohol is one of the major components of conventional mouthwash. It has been associated with mouth, throat and tongue cancer.

Aspartame and Sucralose are often presented as sugar alternatives and touted as being better for protecting teeth. While it is true that these sugar substitutes do not promote tooth decay, they have been associated with significant health complaints and are found in most chewing gum. The only sugar substitutes known to have NO negative side-effects are XYLITOL and STEVIA.
