THE DIRT
A typical perfume today is a cocktail of synthetic chemicals, mostly derived from petroleum. Many of these chemicals have adverse health effects.
There are hundreds of ingredients used in perfumes, here are just a few;
* Benzene derivatives
* Aldehydes
* Phthalates
These ingredients have been shown to;
* Cause cancer
* Cause birth defects
* Cause central nervous system disorders
* Irritate asthma and allergies
Read the, NOT TOO PRETTY report on phthalates.
Other symptoms?
* sore throat, runny nose, sinus congestion, nausea, lethargy, mood swings, dizziness, shortness of breath, wheezing and muscle pain.
How do we absorb them?
* Inhalation
* Skin absorption
Many of the synthetic compounds in perfumes are now found in breast milk.

The good news is, there are heaps of natural alternatives based on pure essential oils, which smell divine and are usually cheaper too.
