Hi , welcome to this weeks Come Clean newsletter

Natural Air Fresheners - the best way to really clear the air..............

THE DIRT

Most air fresheners are made up of a concoction of toxic chemicals.

Have a look at your air freshener and you will most likely find the following warning;

'Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling contents can be harmful or fatal'

An interesting warning for something we spray generously in  tiny spaces.

Before spraying air freshener, you may also want to consider that most contain dibutyl phthalate, an endocrine (hormone) disrupter, a proved teratogen (agent causing abnormal foetal development) and a carcinogen (cancer causing agent) in animals.

It is also on the Environmental Protection Authority list of  hazardous substances. Oh and don't bother looking on the label, Phthalates are not required to be listed. Learn More.

The term 'fragrance or Parfum' can mean any number of combinations of up to 250 synthetic chemicals. The four most commonly used are phthalates. All conventional air fresheners contain synthetic fragrances which are likely to contain phthalates. Visit the  Greenpeace website for more information on toxins in the home.

The Government Fact sheet contains a more conservative looks at phthalates.

G SPOT

Synthetic air fresheners are my pet hate! They have no place in our homes and are merely pollution in a can. There are much better ways to clear the air. I like to use to plant wax candles and essential oils.
