Hi, welcome to this weeks Come Clean newsletter

Eco parties.........the way of the future?

THE DIRT

So you worry about the environment but don't want to give up your modern lifestyle? The green scene is beginning to dominate parties in the UK and US and we are not talking about standing around holding hands and singing. This is seriously sustainable fashion and eco-gastronomy at its best!

Here are some 'clean' tips for your next shin dig.................

E-vites or recylcled invites
It is estimated that paper comprises 40% of all landfill. Make the switch to email invites or use recycled, non bleached paper and card as an alternative.

Feed them organic
So we know that organic food has higher levels of antioxidants and nutients than conventionally grown food. The additional benefit is that no pesticides are used to grow organic food; therefore it is better for your health and better for the planet..

Give them wine and beer or spirits
Organic that is. Ok, so we aren't endorsing a big booze up, but if you are going to drink, it may as well be without the pesticides, insecticides and fungicides. The benefit for the environment is that these nasties don't get into out waterways and destroy delicate eco-systems. If you have friends who are sensitive to preservatives try Organic, preservative free alcohol. Stay tuned as next weeks tip is all about Organic Wine!

Set the mood with chemical free candles
Many candles are made from petroleum derived parrafin which can release carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Additionally the wicks may contain lead and many candles are also synthetically fragranced exposing you to hormone disrupting phthalates.

Use real napkins (hemp or organic cotton) if you can and if not 100% recycled unbleached serviettes
Dioxins, which are released into the environment by the bleaching process are persistent (that is they don't break down) and often remain in the finished product.  In addition to being carcinogenic, Dioxins are thought to increase the risk of learning disorders and decrease immune functions.

Decorate with flowers from your garden
Most flowers are still grown with the use of pesticides and herbicides, picking from your own garden (or a friends), is a cheaper and safer alternative.

G SPOT

I've been guilty of using non eco-friendly versions of all of the above.......I'm making the change.....care to join me for a glass or organic wine and organic cheese..........or perhaps we could do organic coffee and chocolate???
