Hi, welcome to this weeks Come Clean newsletter

Carcinogens with your moisturiser my dear?
We moisturise to keep the wrinkles at bay and banish flaky skin. Recent studies suggest that the chemicals used in conventional moisturiser may actually accelerate pre-mature aging! Talk about self perpetuating!!!!!

THE DIRT

884 of the chemicals used in personal care products and cosmetics are known to be 'toxic substances'. Although some chemicals can appear harmless in small doses, chronic exposure (ie; using these products on most days) may have detrimental effects due to the storage of chemicals in the body's fatty tissues.

Health Impact

Parabens (alkyl -p-hydroxybenzoates) are used as preservatives in most moisturisers, they have been linked to eczema, asthma and some studies have shown a link with breast cancer. They have oestrogen mimicking qualities and for this reason can disrupt the endocrine (hormonal) system. The combination of parabens and UV light may also cause premature skin aging. Look out for butyl, ethyl, methyl, propyl paraben in your products.

Propylene Glycol,  usually derived from petroleum is an animal carcinogen and teratogen (causing birth defects) and can also cause skin irritation, eczema and contact dermatitis.

One leading brand (which I used for years) was found to have acrylamide, triethanolamine (TEA) (which can form carcinogenic nitrosamines) and
Teflon!

G SPOT
A New York makeup artist telling me that I 'needed' the foundation he uses on Charlize Theron, was the start of some seriously bad skin for me!   I started researching to find out which products were causing my dermatitis, but  was shocked to find that many of the products I used not only used know skin irritants  as ingredients, but also contained known carcinogens, teratogens and mutagens
I ended up with clear skin and a new career! Bonus

COME CLEAN

Here are some  modern chemical free products to try....

Aromagic make nutrition for your skin, from edible ingredients. The avocado and jojoba nourishing milk is a refreshing and light moisturiser in a cute glass spray bottle. They also have two other moisturisers, more face care and other goodies too. (We like the lavender bath salts).

Elemental  skincare offer certified organic products including three delicious face creams and a face oil. The products are free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances and petrochemical by-products. The organic nut oils and flower waters add a beautiful touch.

Exilr8 have hip modern chemical free skin products including 'chicky babe; light moistuiser for girls' which smells great and has green tea and ylang ylang in it. If we have break outs, we use their Zit Fix too! It works.

Miessence products are certified organic to food grade. There moisturisers are very herbal smelling but if you can get over that, the texture is good. We love the blushes and lip colours.
