As a family we are recovering from the rollercoaster ride of emotions and lifestyle that a child with cancer brings. No one can say what causes childhood leukemia - but our child was extraordinarily resilient in terms of his health during treatment - I feel this was significantly due to the organic fruit and veg juices that were a part of his every day.

A major change now that all is well is that we have switched to organic fruit and veg; for once there are requests from the kids to have more of these to eat and fights over the last apple in each box we get deliviered insead of the usual battle to force fruit and veg into their systems!

Slowly we are changing over to a more organic diet - organic butter, juices, chicken, eggs and organic spelt bread and lovely organic milk; even organic biscuits and crackers.

Our next significant step is to buy and eat organic red meat. It is all so much more flavourful and we would rather miss out on other things than miss out on spending money on such nuturing and tasty produce! Also I find that shopping in markets becomes a delightful outing in itself.

The reason we are building a house is to improve the quality of life we can offer our kids - now that normality reigns again with the cure of our son. It is also time to savour the gift of each day; to change gears and pursue joy also through the concious changes for a life more sensitive to the earth and our bodies' wants.

Another change in ideaology is our installing bamboo floors for our new house; and a product called "Marmoleum" which is completely natural and has no off gassing! It is a linoleum style flooring made form flour, wood, roisin from plants, cork, limestone and other natural products so that if one wishes to tear the floor up you can throw it away confident it will decompose back into ithe earth with minimal harm. many European homes use this versatile and stylish product. You can incorporate your designs and use different colours in the same rooms. Another bonus is that is economically priced compared to wood flooring!

We also hope to use organic paint to colour the house - and of course we now organic cleaning products such as the Seventh Generation oduorless bleach and the pleasing rose scented floorcleaner from Eco organics.

We also use organic soap and shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash and now hand soap - and I have switched back to organic moisturisers and switched over to organic makeup - which feels and even tastes quite yummy! Organic deoderant is important too and I love the wafts of my organic scent - lavender - when i need that scented 'lift' or to sprinkle on a sick child's sheets. ( Lavender has antiviral and soothing properties too!).

On this point I suppose I am fascinated by organic and environmentally gentle products beacuse one does not only avaiod health risks and dangers - but one often gets added benfits such as the beauty and tastiness of an organic biodynamic egg yolk so yellow the kids were amazed that eggs could look so vivid and plump and delicious - to the therapeutic benefits of fragrant rosemary used in all sorts of personal hygene products; to the beauty and sheer toughness of a bamboo floor r( the one we are getting israted in the Janka Floor Hardness Scale as one of the toughest most scratch resistant floors known to man).

Rafael, our youngest, has his bottom now smeared with organic baby nappy cream nad eats organic baby food jars - his favorite being the organic apple.

When we get onto our new house a major and exciting hobby which has many hidden lessons in store for our kids will be the creation and maintenance of an organic fruit and veg garden; this is special also beacuse both sides of our families have been raised in farming environments where the splendour and warmth of a simple feast from the garden marked their seasons and lives - and we have decided (against the advice of some) to have this for our garden and make more changes in other areas of our lives until the natural and organic becomes habitual.
With the ongoing support and consultation from Cleanlife we can implement the important and sometimes crucial changes to our lives. Cleanlife has been a vital to our education and awareness of health and environmental issues. The understanding, dedication and intelligent service we have received from the team has boosted our confidence in making lifestyle changes and acting upon our new found awareness.

Bev has emailed CleanLife with a correction. The floor cleaner she actually uses is ECO-LOGIC (rose). We have tested this product and love it too.

Happy Changes!
