Organics in the home and garden
I would hardly call myself a green thumb, however I do love to potter around the house and garden and feel that nobody should have to potter around chemicals. So if you have any tips for the home of garden that are non-toxic, we would love to hear about them.

Hey Gina,
Loving your website and your blog!
I am a bit of a 'yippy' myself or at least desperately trying to be one.
My big efforts around the home lately have included making my own laundry detergent and cleaning without chemicals (even the bathroom). The best part of it all is that it's really cheap as well a being enviro friendly.
After a bit of trialing various things I can make a few recommendations.
Vinegar and bi-carb soda are a great combo that can clean almost anthing around the house. The bi carb is great for the bath and fridge.
The vinegar is great for clean floors (keeps grouting nice and clean). I also use vinegar in my wash as a fabric softener. My clothes smell fresh (not like fish and chips at all!), they are soft and it is also good for the washing machine pipes as it cleans away any soapy residue. Go vinegar!
As for making my own washing gel.... easy to do but I've found that it isn't that great for getting clothes really clean. Luckily I have just found a washing powder on the market. It's Australian made and owned and is pollution free and bio degradable. Best of all it's cheap and my clothes look fab! It only cost about $2.00 for 1.25kg and you only use half as much as other washing powders. It's called 'Lectric Soap Powder'. Ok... well that's probably enough 'wisdom' from me today.
Cheers.
