Naturally Kissable Lips

Next time you lather your lips with super glossy sweet smelling and tasting lip balm you may like to consider exactly what it is you are covering yourself in.

I remember buying my first pot of lipbalm at about age 12. I distinctly remember thinking, WOW this is so cool and they don't test on animals. Unfortunately at the time I did not realise that the the manufacturer of this petroleum based product, like most cosmetic companies, tests on humans. It seems they are conducting a series of longitudinal studies, sadly they don't seem to care about the results.

Common knowledge it may not be, but the cosmetics industry uses almost 1000 chemicals that have been listed as known toxins, in their products. Some of these are actually known and listed carcinogens (cancer causing agents), teratogens (agents causing foetal developmental defects) and mutagens (agents that change DNA structure). Don't go blaming your Cosmetic counter lady, she probably doesn't know either. Cosmetic companies have and make a lot of money, they don't mind spending some of their gold to keep their secrets hidden if that means they can still use cheap and nasty chemicals in their products. Please don't take my word for it. Get our there and do some searching for yourself.

The majority of lip balms are based on crude oil derived products, namely Petroleum.
Not only is it a non-renewable resource, It has also been listed as a possible human carcinogen due the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Additionally all petroleum based products dry the skin, so we get caught in a continual cycle of dry lips, use lip balm, dry lips, use lip balm; which makes it quite a profitable little exercise for those in the lip balm industry. (Especially given that petroleum is so ridiculously cheap)

If you are like me and love to have soft shiny lips, then get yourself on the chemcial free cosmetics bandwagon. There are heaps of great products out there, so find your favourites.

Unfortunately you have to be careful with so called "natural and organic" products as well as I have found alot of these products still contain chemicals.
The only way to be sure there are no chemicals in your products is to use Certified Organic Products as these have been audited by a third party making sure the products are 100% Chemical Free.

If you would like to find out if your products contain any chemicals and would like to download a free E-Book called Chemical Cocktails which has a list of the chemicals used in most bathroom products please visit our website at www.aussieorganicsrus.com
